This package contains nine cell and tissue videos that may be streamed at any time for 365 days (from date of purchase).

  • Cell Surface Structures
  • Cell Organelles
  • Epithelium
  • Epithelial Glands
  • Connective Tissue
  • Cartilage & Joints
  • Bone
  • Muscle
  • Nervous

The Cell Surface Structures video is an introduction to cytology, histology, and the importance of H&E staining in organelle identification. Light microscopic images, EM images, or illustrations are used to observe and discuss plasma membrane, endocytosis, exocytosis, basal lamina, glycocalyx, microvilli, cilia, stereocilia, and junctional complexes.

The Cell Organelles video discusses organelles, cytoskeleton, nucleus, cell growth/death, and observes these concepts through images and illustrations. Emphasis is placed on H&E staining for the purposes of microscopic identification of organelles.

The Epithelium video covers the general characteristics of epithelia, how to describe/name the type of epithelium, and the general locations and functions of epithelia.

The Epithelial Glands video is an introduction to glands, briefly describing exocrine vs. endocrine glands defining the methods (merocrine, apocrine, holocrine), and the nature (serous, mucous) of secretions, and providing examples. More detail of glands will be covered in the endocrine system and other systems including the integument, digestive, and reproductive systems

The Connective Tissue video gives an overview of connective tissue, the cells found in connective tissues, fiber types, ground substance, and describes the morphology, function, and location of the proper connective tissues (loose, dense irregular, and dense regular). The video includes an overview of a few pathological conditions.

The Cartilage & Joints video examines cartilage formation and growth, its function, and the morphology of the different types of cartilage (hyaline, elastic, fibrocartilage). The video discusses joints by examining fibrous, cartilaginous, and synovial joints.

The Bone video covers the cellular components, functions, types (mature, immature), cancellous or compact configurations, and the formation (intramembranous, endochondral) and growth of bones.

The Muscle video observes the structure, function, and mechanism of contraction for skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle, and histologically compares them to allow the proper identification in sections.

The Nervous video examines the cellular components of the central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS), morphology and general functions of the meninges, cerebrum, cerebellum, brain stem, spinal cord, and covers a few peripheral nerve endings. The video includes some gross anatomy images.
